A Brief History of Solow Sports
Prior to the 2005 US Open, I , (Derek Hsiang) was a recreational tennis player. I played a couple matches a year at best, and those matches were ugly. But then I watched Andre Agassi miraculously grind through his US Open draw and push Roger Federer to the limit for the first 3 sets of the final, and became totally hooked. As if a switch had been turned on, I had immediately become obsessed with tennis. I started watching tons of tournaments, and began playing every week, and by mid-2006 had committed to ditching corporate life to build The Tennis Store.
Launched on the first day of the French Open 2007, The Tennis Store is an authorized reseller of tennis-related products and was the official online retail partner of Tennisport, Inc., New York City's premier tennis facility. Unfortunately on July 31st, 2009, the City of New York enacted eminent domain and shut down Tennisport to develop affordable housing. So as of September 2009, The Tennis Store has expanded operations under its new name, Solow Sports. We are now located in our own location at 10 W Neck Rd in Huntington, NY.
We offer a simple and intuitive shopping experience for the casual recreational player and tennis enthusiast alike. Since we specialize in tennis, we are able to offer a wide range of tennis related products at competitive prices, including the latest performance racquets, strings, racquet accessories, apparel, shoes, and more.
There's a few dozen tennis retail sites out there, though. Why buy from us? I'll be the first to admit, we're not a huge operation. But this bodes well for you, the customer. Every order is given our full attention, and you don't have to worry about your problems getting lost in a sea of support representatives. We take notes and try to remember every detail about our customers, so that all of our team is aware of your concerns. We actually mean it when we (and not an automated answering machine) say your call is important to us.
Our size allows for extremely efficient operations. We process all orders in 24 hours or less (products on backorder or special order may take slightly longer), and we keep our overheads low so we can pass our savings onto you. We claim to have the lowest prices because we try and beat every price we can find out there (with the exception of items on Minimum Advertised Pricing policies). If we missed something, let us know, and we will match or beat any valid advertised price you cite.
The Tennis Store is also committed to giving back to the community and the environment. We reuse boxes and pack with newspaper, which helps the environment and results in cost savings for you. We encourage you to reuse and recycle our packaging! Also, The Tennis Store proudly donates a percentage of profits to charities.
Come visit us at our brand new location, opened on September 6th, 2009!
